A Brief IntroductionNCCRESt, the National Center for Culturally Responsive Educational Systems, was a federally funded project from 2002 through 2010. It was dedicated to addressing the disproportionate representation of public schools students who were identified by race, language, and/or ethnicity as having "minority" status and who were also identified by the educational system for special education services. Led by a number of scholars whose life-long commitments to addressing the systemic, pernicious, and persistent marginalization of groups of students in our nation's schools, NCCRESt offers important insights about the immense challenges of systemic transformation in schooling particularly around deeply embedded social practices that continue to plague the U.S. around race, language, and gender.
